With over 40 years beekeeping experience, Charles started beekeeping with his father at age 12. Keeping bees was a long running hobby until 2011, when he decided to begin building up his 6 or so hobby hives and into a small commercial enterprise of 20. Since then the business has undergone steady growth taking the current colony numbers over 200.
Charles is an experienced queen breeder and his in-house queens form the foundation for many of our production colonies. In 2021 he began integrating Apitracer into the production system to allow for greater colony performance monitoring and to better inform queen rearing decisions.
Charles believes in providing the best quality product while maintaining an open and honest relationship with customers about where products come from. That is why we choose to call products "Artisan" as opposed to "raw" - because to call our jarred honey "raw" would be false.
Raw honey must remain exactly as it was in the frames of the hive, that means zero filtering. We do gently warm and filter our honey to remove large contaminants but leave behind the natural goodness, such as traces of pollen. So our jarred honeys are not "raw" but they are "pure" and we guarantee they are 100% British.
