A nucleus hive is a starter hive.
It has all the parts that a colony of bees needs to grow into a fully functioning beehive that is able to sustain itself.
The nucleus hive will come with a mated queen who is actively laying eggs, 4-5 frames with fully developed honeycomb, around 4-6,000 adult bees, enough honey to survive transportation to the new beekeeper and lots of bee eggs and larvae that will hatch within the next few weeks.
These are headed by a Buckfast Queen.
These will produce a good surplus on good years but may need more stores to over winter and may not do as well in poor years.
These are from Artificially inseminated breeder queens selected for there tolerance and ability to deal with Varroa. They are generally good to handle.
They are open mated within our selected mating yards.
